This Month's Flower: Rosemary
Rosemary has traditionally been the flower of remembrance and friendship. Believing it brought
good luck and joy in medieval times, it was woven into royal crowns and bride's bouquets. Rosmarinuis, means dew
of the sea and Rosemary was the symbol of Venus, Goddess of love, who rose from the sea. The Romans and Greeks
wore garlands of this sacred plant, symbolic of loyalty, remembrance, learning and death. It was given to mourners
at funerals as a symbol of immortality, fidelity and fertility to be placed on the coffin as it was lowered into
the ground. They felt it would protect a man's soul throughout eternity from evil and witchcraft.
As an herb, it is traditionally used to strengthen the memory. It's antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal
properties enhance the function of the immune system. It has long been considered a wonderful tonic for the heart,
brain and nervous systems. Used as a tea, the warming and stimulating effects clear phlegm from the head and chest.
Some of Rosemary's other uses are for lethargy, varicose veins, bruising, arteriosclerosis, to stimulate digestion,
relieve flatulence, enhance appetite, as a diuretic, antioxidant, as an astringent, to check bleeding, regulate
periods, as a pick me up when aching or feeling tired at the end of the day, in lotion to reduce wrinkles, puffiness
under the eyes and condition your hair and scalp. The oil will bring relief when massaged into painful joints,
on the temples to relieve tension and headaches, and inhaled to increase concentration and clarify the mind.
The leaves can be chewed to combat gum infection or boiled to use as a mouthwash for bleeding gums and loose teeth.
As a flower essence, Rosemary brings clarity of mind, peace and balance to the emotions creating
a warm physical presence. It is very effective for children or adults with ADD to bring them back in touch with
the present moment letting them feel warm and secure in their physical bodies. It helps me stay grounded and focused
when writing these newsletters. |

INTENTION
VS ATTENTION
While growing up, I always
heard the saying that "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" and having traveled that road
into my senior citizen status I think I would agree with that statement.
Along the journey of life we have many good intentions. We start out by wanting to please our parents, to
do better in school, get all "A", find the right boyfriend/girlfriend, get the perfect job, have fun,
take care of our partner, be better parents, teach our children to behave, be responsible, get a better job,
etc.
What I notice is that
we get caught up focusing our attention on wanting more--getting better and having the best. This increases
our daily stress and struggle and we loose sight of our intentions. We get caught up in the moment of having,
achieving and wanting --- forgetting that our intentions often carried a somewhat more lofty or altruistic view.
What is the intention of your life? What do you want your life to have been about when your time is up?
For the last 20 years
around January first, I spend some time reviewing the previous year setting some goals and intentions for the coming
year."What do I want/need to focus my attention on?" When I first found out about setting my intention
as a way to focus my life, it was all about my job, income, and travel, in other words, achievements.
I notice as I get older it is more about my relationships, quality time with my family and friends, with myself,
with Spirit and, yes, a few achievements.
I invite you to take
15 minutes and write down your top 3-5 Intentions for this year. Keep them on your computer, read them daily, focusing
your attention on the loftier qualities of your intentions. Medical science has proven that sending loving healing
Intention to a patient improves their well being. I think you will find that your daily annoyances and aggravations
become smaller, and life will flow a little easier if your focus is on your 'intention'. |
Vibrational
Energy
Dr Edward Bach, a respected English immunologist, pathologist and bacteriologist, first introduced Flower Essences
into the homeopathic journals in the early 1920ís. Instead of using the medical model he was trained
in he followed the path of other Healers such as Paracelsus and Dr. Hahnemann who understood that true health and
wellbeing came from within and were dependent on harmony of body, mind, and spirit.
Dr Bach saw the emotional stresses arising from fear, anxiety, panic, anger intolerance and impatience depleted
his patients general vitality and resistance to disease. He understood that remedies to unhappy thoughts and feelings
were to be found among flowers, herbs and trees, and devised a way to extract their energetic properties without
damaging the plants.
Flower remedies are very diluted from a physical or chemical constituents perspective. Their effectiveness is derived
from the life force of the flower contained in the water-based liquid. Flower Essences are very subtle in
nature and address issues of emotional and mental harmony.
Dr Bach said "they raise our vibrations and open up our channels for the reception of our spiritual self.
They are able, like beautiful music or any gloriously uplifting thing which gives us inspiration, to raise our
very natures and bring us nearer to ourselves and by that very act to bring us peace and relieve our suffering".
Flower Essences are not a substitute for medical advice or prescriptions.
They support our inner emotional being, and help restore us to harmony and balance.
