Crocus: Openess and Clarity, Speaking your Truth
|
THIS MONTHS FLOWER: CROCUS
This beautiful little flower that pokes its purple head through the snow signals the onset of spring and usually
arrives at the time of the Equinox, March 21According to Greek myth, handsome mortal Crocus fell in love with the
beautiful nymph Smilax. But his favors were rebuffed by Smilax, and he was turned into a beautiful purple crocus
flower. The Minoans of ancient Greece were known as growers of this bulb. They traded saffron throughout the eastern
Mediterranean, as early as 1550 BC. Saffron, a component of crocus was valued in the ancient world, used
as a spice, dye, in perfumes and as a medicine for backache relief.
Currently
Saffron is primarily harvested in Spain. Moslems introduced it there in the 8th century. It is also
cultivated in India, Turkey, China and Iran. The name is derived from the Arabic word, zafaran, meaning 'yellow'.
In India, its orange color is considered the epitome of beauty and is the official color of Buddhist robes. Saffron
was used to scent the baths and public halls of Imperial Rome. Pliny wrote that saffron was the most frequently
falsified commodity throughout history. Low-grade saffron has most often been falsified with dried calendula
or marigold. It is claimed that in the 14th century, at the time of the Crusades a pilgrim to the Holy Land, smuggled
back one crocus bulb in a hollow staff from which all-English saffron supposedly descends. It grew
so well in Essex that Saffron Walden eventually became the biggest dye center in Europe. The bright
red-orange threads you get when you buy saffron are actually the stigmas, or femaleportion, of the Saffron Crocus flowers. There are only 3 stigmas
(referred to as saffron threads) per flower. Saffron is handharvested explaining why it is so prized and explaining
why it is so prized and expensive. It takes about 13,125 threads per ounce or 70,000 blossoms or 210,000
handpicked
stigmas to make a single pound.
Saffron is a delicious and colorful seasoning that is used in breads, desserts, and main dishes in many parts of
the world. Without it, an Indian curry, Spanish paella, or Italian risotto Milanese just would not be the
same.

CROCUS FLOWER ESSENCE
Purple Crocus is used for resolving tension generated from grief and loss. This
beautiful flower
has to do with the throat and "speaking your truth". Crocus flower essence
releases all the
unexpressed emotions held in this part of the body, notably sadness, regret, grief or loss.
These fearful emotions are replaced by a sense of openness and clarity. Healing from
past
hurts, fears and anxieties ease, our joy, wisdom and personal power are strengthened.
Our self-image improves, forgiveness and tolerance within us expands. This is a
very strong
essence for anyone who's intention is to speak their truth.

Vibrational Energy
The Vernal Equinox March 21, is the time our Crocus, Snow Drops and Daffodils bloom. Translated literally, equinox
means "equal night." Because the sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in
length all over the world during the equinoxes. In the northern and southern hemisphere, the equinox occurs at
the same moment, but is the beginning ofautumn in the south and spring in the north.
The date is significant in Christianity since Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon
after the vernal equinox. It is probably no coincidence that early Egyptians built the great sphinx so that it
points directly toward the rising sun on the day of the vernal equinox. The equinox marks the first day of
the Iranian, Persian and Bahaiía calendar year.
The equinox is the end of the astrological calendar in the sign of Pisces and the beginning of the New Year in
Aries. The key words for Pisces, a water sign, are "I believe". Pisces rules the 12th house,
often considered our subconscious, our shadow selves that remain hidden to us. As Pisces draws to an end
on March 21, it is a time to think about "What do I believe".
As we start the new astrological year in fire sign of Aries, the days start to get longer. Aries key words are
"I am the Divine". Just like the Crocus pops out of the earth, the equinox projects us forward
into the light and we start to blossom and grow again. It is the ending and the new beginning, leaving the
winter quiet, springing forward into the cycle of the New Year, a time to think about "What's my philosophy,
who am I".
Focusing on "a new day" you might consider a new way of looking at things. Open up to new opportunities
to grow, feel the abundance of spring flowing through your life. It is a wonderful time to start new projects,
clear out the clutter, or write your goals for the coming months. My Inspiration Flower Essence Spray softens and
quiets the mind allowing our creativity to flow. Wayne Dyer told me he sprayed it every day while he wrote his
last book.
