the healing power of flowers. Each month, I will share with
you my findings, my travels, and the many ways in which flowers
and their essences can uplift your spirit and create beauty
in your life. |

This
Month's Flower: SCOTCH PINE
Everyone loves the smell of pine trees with its branches
reminding us of the winter holidays. Early Europeans
used pine wood for building houses, the tall straight
trees for the masts of sailing ships, and its needles
to stuff their mattresses. The Native Americans ate
the tops to prevent scurvy. The cones were boiled with
other herbs and honey to relieve a cough, and the needles
were pounded and added to the bath to relieve arthritis.
Its resins and turpentine makes solvents for paints
today.
Pine is warm and dry, and is an excellent expectorant
for clearing phlegm from the lung, bronchial and sinus,
as well as being antiseptic. It aids digestion, stimulates
the kidneys, helps arthritis and gout, and can be given
for physical and mental depletion, exhaustion and anxiety.
Always mix it into carrier oil such as almond, sesame
or jojoba, never put an essential oil directly on your
body.
As a flower essence remedy, it is given to those who
blame themselves, feel responsible for the problems
and mistakes of others and live with constant guilt.
Pine works to help us learn self-acceptance and how
to set appropriate boundaries. Your holiday pine tree,
wreath or garland will not only brighten up your home,
it highlights the lesson of the Season---love and forgiveness
as we take a moment to realize the sacredness and divinity
first of ourselves, and then of all others.

 Trust
Spray
In
2002, I traveled to Perth,
Australia to study with
Vasu Barnao, Australian
Living Essences owner and
teacher. My mission was
two fold: to gain clarity
on the next direction in
my life as I was soon to
celebrate my 62nd birthday,
as well as a keen desire
to participate in the Earth
Sauna Healing experience
with Nunjan, the Aboriginal
leader of the Bibulmun
tribe, which I will discuss
at a later time.
In
my work with Vasu, he led me
through a process of picking
the flower essence cards to address
my issues of Trust. Like many
others, I had situations in my
past when I felt very unsafe,
starting in early childhood.
Vasu used the Bahui method of
working with the flower essences,
which was an amazing process
of seeing how this essence would
heal me. He then gave me a very
large (16 oz) bottle of essences
with instructions to take 4 drops
in water every evening before
bed. I did this for two years
and although I still sometimes
find I am unsure of which direction
I need to go--- I always know
that I can "Trust
the Universe" to
show me the way. This essence
promotes inner knowing, the confidence
that all will turn out exactly
as it is supposed to. Trust is
rooted in love and acceptance---you
have to first of all accept yourself
and who you truly are and be
comfortable with that in order
to open your heart and allow
others in. I have since shared
this essence with many of my
clients and friends, with wonderful
results.

time
of
change
and
uncertainty
I feel
it
would
help
others
to

Give
the gift of flowers this Holiday
Season, buy flower bulbs-Daffodils,
Paper Iris, Crocus or Hyacinth
-- at a nursery, a simple glass
dish (2 inches deep), and small
rocks from the hardware store.
Place the rocks and 3 or 4 bulbs
in the dish and wrap them up.
Include a reminder that the bulbs
need to be kept watered, and
when they bloom next month your
friends will still be celebrating
their joy with you.
